Personal Work
The work I make for myself: the music, the culture, the streets, and the everyday moments most people walk past.
I photograph New Orleans as an urban landscape, framed with a still-life eye.
The empty block and the second line pull at me the same way: a rusted gate, a hand-painted sign, the Indians on Super Sunday, a brass band rounding the corner. Objects, surfaces, people, and light, held long enough to become a photograph.
Documentary at heart, but every frame is composed. I walk the same blocks in the heat and after the storms, in the hours most people skip, and I wait for the ordinary to line up. Quiet street or a hundred deep, I’m watching the edges of the frame as closely as the center.
